The
Sankofa Foundation
Sankofa
is a word from the Akan language, which is spoken by the people of
southern Ghana and adjacent Côte d'Ivoire. Literally translated, Sankofa
means:
"We must go back and
reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we
came to be who we are today."
The
purpose of the Sankofa Foundation is to provide educational workshops,
forums, lectures, and/or panels on topics relevant to the community at
large, but in particular to those students transitioning from a junior
college to a four-year college or university.
The
Sankofa Foundation will also provide one-day workshops for the educational
enlightenment and enrichment of junior college students. The Annual
Scholarship Award will provide financial support to students who will
graduate from a junior college, or 2-year institution, and planning to
attend a 4-year college or university. All applicants for the Scholarship
Award must provide their acceptance letters before the scholarship monies
are released.
